To be considered for an award, you must demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:
Academic achievement/employment status
- You must either be qualified and practising as a solicitor in England and Wales, or
- You must have already completed the academic stage of qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales, through having obtained either:
- An Undergraduate Degree in Law of at least Class 2(ii) from a UK university
- A Graduate’s Diploma in Law (GDL); or
- A Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) Level 6 Diploma in Law and Practice;
And you must evince to the trustees’ satisfaction an intention to pursue a career as a solicitor of the senior courts of England and Wales.”
Course of study
You must intend to study in France, Spain or Canada during the term of the award, and to follow a course in the law and legal procedures of the country in question.
However, if you study in either France or Spain, you may, as an alternative, take a course which is devoted to the law of the European Union.
Scholarships will normally be granted only for courses which are at post-graduate level, taken at a leading university in the country concerned, and lead to a formal qualification, such as an LLM or equivalent award.
You will be expected to identify the course you wish to take on your application form.
